    Since 1951, Episcopal Retirement Services (ERS) has worked to improve the lives of older adults through innovative, quality senior living communities and through community services to older adults.


    We are currently seeking a Controller to formulate and implement the financial plans and policies of Episcopal Retirement Services to ensure the availability of funds needed to meet operating requirements and implement strategic plans. The Controller, reporting to the ERS CFO, is accountable for the current and long-term effectiveness of all financial functions within ERS, including accounting, financial analysis and budgeting.


    The position will primarily work at our ERS support services office conveniently located in the community of Fairfax.     • Maintains the system of accounts and reviews records on all transactions and assets pertaining to the Affordable Living business line. Also develops and maintains an effective Cash Management System
    • Maintains an effective system for billing and collections
    • Leads the Affordable Living financial management team to maintain quality services and care in accordance with ERS’s mission and core values
    • Provides financial analysis, guidance and counsel to ERS’s Servant Leadership Team to facilitate the development of strategic goals and tactical plans that support the mission and general welfare of ERS Affordable Living (ERSAL)
    • Assures accurate and timely accounting and reporting of ERSAL financial transactions and related analyses and alerts management of trends and potential financial problems
    • Provides a financial consulting resource for the ERSAL management staff
    • Assures the protection of ERSAL assets through the implementation and maintenance of effective internal control procedures
    • Provides cross review of material accruals with Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) & Foundation business line. Understands the CCRC and Foundation financial statements and accounting processes
    • Oversees the preparation of all Affordable Living properties’ forecast and the annual budget. Assists with the preparation of the affordable living rent increases and HUD Assistance Program (HAP) renewals
    • Coordinates and provides guidance for year-end closing process
    • Oversees and coordinates Development Accounting on newly awarded Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) properties including, but not limited to, tax credit collection management and deferred developer fee forecasting
    • Assist CFO with refinancing and new financing opportunities as needed, including the development of new LIHTC communities
    • Attends in-services, education sessions, and other meetings
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
    • Coordinates and facilitates the preparation of Affordable Living reports to all interested parties and all external audits
    • Develops strong working relationship with the community managers, regional affordable housing managers and the Executive Director of Affordable Living and provides support and back-up to other accounting staff and serves as a resource to community staff on their financial statements

    • Assist with acquisitions and transitioning new management contracts


    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field required

    • CPA or Master’s degree preferred

    • At least 5 years’ experience in the accounting or finance field

    • Affordable Living and Non-Profit Accounting experience preferred

    • Previous management experience preferred

    • Effective financial planning and organizational skills

    • Computer competency in Microsoft Office programs especially Excel and database programs

    • Great Plains and Management Reporter/FRx experience preferred

    • Effective leadership/management and communication skills

    • Must be able to work independently with little supervision and able to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines

    • Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language and speak the language in an understandable manner
